Downtown transit study narrows route options to Main and Grand

The Downtown Corridor Alternatives Analysis study team has narrowed down options for possible streets on which to run a starter transit line in downtown Kansas City, Mo. Stop by an open house on Aug. 23 from 8 a.m.–6:30 p.m. at Union Station during the Regional Transit Alliance's Modern Streetcar Party to learn why Main Street and Grand Boulevard will be advanced to the next round of analysis, and what happens next. Jackson County receives federal funding to study U.S Highway 71

The United States Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration have announced that Jackson County, Mo., has been awarded a $652,200 competitive federal grant to study a transportation corridor in south Kansas City. The grant funds will be used to conduct an alternatives analysis study in the U.S. Highway 71 Highway commuter corridor — including the cities of Kansas City, Grandview, Raymore and Belton. The most recent episode of Imagine KC aired Aug. 18 on KCPT and explores strategies to connect the Kansas City region's most vibrant places along key streets.
Stories look at how connecting corridors and increasing transportation choices can help strengthen and revitalize valued places, and provide economic, environmental and health benefits. The episode and rebroadcast schedules will be available online within a few days.

Streetcar party planned for Aug. 23
The Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance is sponsoring an all-day Modern Streetcar Party on Aug. 23 at Union Station (30 W. Pershing Rd., Kansas City, Mo.) to build momentum for the Downtown Corridor Alternatives Analysis. The event will feature an ameriTRAM modern streetcar that visitors can tour. Streetcars are one of the modes being considered for expanding transit service in a north-south corridor in downtown Kansas City. Local elected officials will make public addresses at 5:30 p.m. Event details
